Obituary of Frederick W. Buck

Buck, Frederick Wm., Jr. on December 16, 2014 of North Merrick, L.I., at the age of 95. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy (Hansult). Loving father of Lorraine and Fred. Big brother to the late Wilma M. (Carl) Person of Seattle, WA. And the late Wilbert J. (Lillian) Buck of Farmingdale, survived by Wilbert's second wife Jeanne. Uncle to 17 nieces and nephews and numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Ably assisted during the last decade of his life by his personal health-care aides to whom we thank for their love and dedication, especially Euda, Mandy and Christine as well as Claire, Cathy, Francesca, Cindy and Valerie. Loved and will be missed by many friends, especially Tommy, Vera and Bill. He also enjoyed the comfort of his daughter's many cats. Born to Frederick Wm., Sr. and Wilhelmina (Zirk) Buck in Brooklyn two blocks south of the Navy Yard and raised in Williamsburg where his parents ran an ice cream parlor. Moved with his family to Merrick, L.I. in 1935, where he was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church for 79 years. Graduate of Freeport High School. Worked seasonal carpentry and HVAC installation jobs after High School. Started working at Grumman in 1941 and was employed there as a wing assembler, machinist and in machine shop management for 43 years. United in marriage with his wife Dorothy in Richmond Hill, Queens on June 17, 1945 until Dorothy's death in 2001. Resident of Wenshaw Park in North Merrick in 1950. Loved to bowl and was an active member and treasurer of Grumman employee and retiree leagues. Expert in shop math, fabrication techniques and in doing the job right. Enjoyed working on cars and around the house, which he doubled in size. If it was mechanical and broken, he could fix it. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 7-9pm on Friday, December 26th at N.F. Walker, Inc. Funeral Home 2039 Merrick Ave. Merrick, L.I. (www.nfwalkerfh.com) Burial service at 9:30am Saturday, December 27 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Merrick Avenue, Merrick followed by interment at Nassau Knolls Cemetery in Port Washington. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Fred's name to any charity of your choice.
