Obituary of Helene Mulligan Isham

Helene Mulligan Isham, aged 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening November 25 at her home in Winnetka Illinois. Formerly of Merrick, Long Island, Helene was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Edward and Helen Wright. In 1948, she married John (Jack) V. Mulligan, who predeceased her in 1973. In l976, Helene married Edward (Sandy) Isham who predeceased her. Helene is survived by her five sons and their spouses – Thomas and Mary Ellen; John and Susan; Gerard;. David and Kim; and Robert and Trisha. Helene will be dearly missed by her 11 grandchildren and her three great-grandchildren. Helene is also survived by her brother Edward Wright and her brother in law Robert Goessman. She was predeceased by her sister Adrienne Goessman and her sister in law Claire Wright. Helene's life was blessed by a large extended family and numerous friends. Helene earned her Bachelor's degree and M.S.W. in Social Work from Adelphi University. She served as a Deputy Commissioner of the Town of Hempstead Services for the Aging. Helene was a dedicated volunteer for numerous charities including the Long Island Crisis Center and, most recently, the Chicago Botanic Garden. Family and friends are invited to a memorial service celebrating Helene's life on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at noon in Room 313 of the Ruth S. Harley University Center of Adelphi University followed by a luncheon .. The University Center is at 1 South Avenue, Garden City,NY 11530.
