Obituary of Peter McBrien
Peter McBrien, 81, passed away on September 12, 2024, in Merrick, New York.
Son of Anne McBrien (Hughes) and James McBrien, he was born September 13, 1942, in New York, NY. Peter truly was a rock to the many who in him have lost a beloved husband, dad, grandfather, coworker, or friend. He was a proud Boy Scout who was raised in the Bronx and reveled in telling the story of the trip he won to Italy when he was 12 years old. He was a witty master of sarcastic humor, and enjoyed fishing, NYT crossword puzzles, emailing political cartoons to his loved ones, tracking the stock market, and rooting for the Buffalo Bills – “the only true NY team.” His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.
Peter earned his BA from Mount St. Mary’s College and built a career as an analyst or auditor at various companies, always leaving them better and more compliant for his efforts.
In retirement, he volunteered at Cure’ of Ars Church (Merrick, NY) and at the Regina Residence (Merrick, NY) as the technology guru for expectant and new mothers.
Peter was preceded in death by his mother and father, all his aunts and uncles, and several beloved cousins and friends. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Catherine McBrien (Brower), their children and spouses: Dr. James McBrien (Dr. Catherine Lee-McBrien) of Bellmore, NY and Anne Marie (McBrien) Raneri (Stephen Raneri) of Locust Valley, NY; Eight grandchildren: Audrey McBrien, Aidan McBrien, Cavan McBrien, Evelyn McBrien, Matthew Raneri (Elyse Howell), Katherine Raneri, Josianne Raneri, Lola Raneri; sister Virginia (McBrien) Bell (Kenneth Bell) of Syracuse, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
