Our father also applied for and received a US Patent in 1974 for designing/inventing a system that pressurized stair wells in high rise buildings . The system removed smoke from stairwells during a building fire. It was studied by the NYC Fire Dept. at the time and the NYFD said it was a wonderful invention. At the time , during the economic malaise of the 1970's, building owners were reluctant to spend money on building safety and the invention was delayed being implemented . His Patent expired 14 years later. High rise buildings today use some variation of his design . Right around the time he got the Patent, they made the Movie - The Towering Inferno. Every time we watched that movie it had special meaning for us.
Our father also did HVAC work in Yankee Stadium when it was renovated in the mid 1970's. To show how grateful NYC and the Yankee were for all the effort the HVAC team put in getting the Stadium ready, NYC and the Yankees gave my father 4 tickets to the 1976 World Series . My father took me and my 2 brothers to game 4 at Yankee Stadium and we sat in the upper deck rooting for the Cincinnati Reds to Win. We were Met fans !!! We risked our lives being one of the few in that stadium rooting against the Yankees.
Raised 3 sons, one was a School Attendance Teacher for NYC, one was a Civil Engineer and the other was an Income Tax Auditor who worked for the NYS Dept. Of Taxation .
So many memories!

William was a very skilled boatbuilder , built 4 boats between 1968 and 1989 on his property in Merrick . The last boat he built was a 32 foot Maine Lobster Boat named the Dashingwave . Built that Maine Lobster boat on his front lawn in Merrick in 1989. The Palmer family still owns the Dashingwave and it's docked in Point Lookout,NY . Him and his sons really learned how to build boats. So confident in their boats they sailed them almost 50 miles off Montauk Point. Our father taught us everything nautical, how to do electrical, woodworking .
He was also very interested in Steam Locomotives and build a 1/4 scale Steam Locomotive from scratch. Sold it to the Reading Society Of Model Engineers /trains in Pennsylvania for $10,000. They bought the locomotive to take people on rides around their 3 mile railroad down there.
Miss going on hunting and fishing trips with my father.
