Obituary of Phyllis de Rolland

Please share a memory of Phyllis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Filomena “Phyllis” de Rolland passed peacefully away at home, surrounded by her family at the age of 79 on Friday , June 17, 2022. Born September 6, 1942, she shared 79 years of love, kindness and memories with family and friends. Phyllis was born in the Bronx, NY to the late Fred and Antonetta “Nettie” Castorf, along with her three younger brothers. Phyllis also resided in Sunnyside, Queens, before moving to Merrick, NY in 1974. She worked for Peck and Peck in New York City where she met her husband Ludovic “Ludy” de Rolland. On October 17, 1964, Phyllis and Ludy married. Phyllis left the workforce when her daughter was born to become a stay home mom, raising her two children, Nicole and Derek, first in Sunnyside and then Merrick. She was a homemaker, a soccer mom , her children’s greatest cheerleader and to the kids in the neighborhood “ MOM”. As her children grew up, she provided day care for local children, as well as working as a receptionist and at Frank’s nursery. Phyllis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her grandchildren, Jason, Alex and Jake, were her pride and joy and she happily bragged about them. Her hobbies included crochet, sewing, crafts, reading, theater and earlier in life, photography. Her greatest love in life was her family. Spending time with her family and creating special memories was extremely important to her. She always made her family feel special, no matter the occasion. She was constantly giving of herself. She was the first to take off a ring and hand it to someone who admired it as a gift. Family and their happiness came first, no matter what. She was a selfless individual and a family historian, always sharing a story that would make you smile. To her family, she was more than a mother, grandmother, and a wife. She was a friend, mentor, and confidante. She was a role model on how to be kind and compassionate. Her love, caring, kindness and generosity was unsurpassed, and she will always be remembered for her unwavering and unconditional love. Phyllis was a beautiful person with a beautiful soul. The radiant shine that followed her in life will follow her in death. Her absence will forever leave a scar on the heart of all who knew and loved her. She is and will be forever loved and forever missed. She is survived by her husband Ludy of almost 58 years and two children, her daughter Nicole (and Bill) and son Derek and her loving grandsons Jason, Alexander and Jake; her brothers , Cesare (Butch), the late Donner (Donnie) , and Patrick and their wives; and many dear aunts, uncles , nieces and nephews; and many extended family and good friends.
