Obituary of Francis R. Teevan

Francis Raymond Teevan was born on May 30, 1929 at Saint Ann's Hospital in Manhattan, New York City. He grew up in Brooklyn and attended Saint Francis Prep. He lived in Merrick since 1963 and was a devout and active member of Cure of Ars R.C parish, participating in many events and church organizations. He taught Religious Education up until just a few weeks before his passing. He loved the Boy Scouts of America (Eagle Scout in 1946) and served them well for almost his entire adult life. His strong Catholic faith, his wisdom, and his compassion was shared with many people and their lives made better by his friendship and his charity. He served in the United States Air Force from 1947 until his Honorable Discharge as a staff sergeant in 1953. He flew over twenty-five combat missions as the radio operator on a B-29 aircraft. His decorations include the Air Medal, Korean War Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, New York State Service Medal, and the National Defense Medal. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from New York Institute of Technology and was employed by DUCON-United States Filter Co., the NYC Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, and the NYC Metropolitan Transit Authority. He is preceded in death by his mother Helen V. Cassidy and her husband Henry J. Cassidy, a brother Henry J. Cassidy, Jr. and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his son-in-law Robert J. Ryan. He married his loving wife Mary A. O'Moore on May 16, 1953, and they celebrated their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary this year. Their three children are Francis and wife Judy of Woodbridge, Virginia, William and wife Pamela of Bogota, New Jersey, and Joan Ryan of Fort Myers, Florida. He has five grandchildren and two great-grandsons, with a third expected to arrive in December: Melanie Anne and her husband Francis Cihak and their son Matthew Francis, Allyson M. Teevan, Laura Elizabeth and her husband Jared Bridges and their son Theodore Patrick, Sarah F. Teevan and her partner Eric Johnson, and William F. Clemens.
