PFRIENDER, Florence Barbara (Flos), 93, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2021, at The Atria in Lynbrook, NY under the care of Hospice.
Born in Glendale, NY, she moved to Metuchen, NJ in her early adulthood. She lived there for 50 years until 2001 when she moved to Merrick, NY.
Florence worked as an Executive Secretary with Triangle Industries and later with White Rose in Chatham, NJ.
She was recruited by Arthur M. Goldberg, a businessman, lawyer and the President and CEO of Park Place Entertainment. She was Mr. Goldberg's Personal Executive Secretary. She retired in 2001.
Florence's love of travel took her to many wonderful places in the world.
She loved to supply family functions with her delicious baked goods. She was an active member of Cure of Ars R.C. Church, where she worshiped and volunteered as a Eucharistic Minister.
Florence loved babies and children, as a member of the Mercy League she hand crocheted many beautiful blankets, providing them to young mothers for their newborns.
Florence was a devoted friend to many, and a loving and very generous daughter, sister, aunt, grandaunt, and cousin.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Marilyn Pfriender of The Dominican Sisters of Amityville; niece Barbara Wilkens of NY, nephews Peter Wilkens (Andrea) of NJ, Anthony Wilkens (Jane) of NY; grandnephews and grandnieces Peter Wilkens (Alison) of DE, Eric Wilkens (Jordan) of PA, Ryan Wilkens, and Valerie Wilkens of NY.
She is predeceased by her parents, Anna and William Pfriender, sister Helen and husband John Wilkens, Sr. and nephew John Wilkens, Jr.
Visitation will be held at N.F. Walker, Inc. – Merrick Funeral Home, 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick on Sunday August 8 from 3 to 7PM.
Funeral Mass at Cure of Ars R.C. Church located at 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick on Monday the 9th at 10AM.
Entombment in the Cemetery of the Holy Rood, Westbury, NY.
