Willard A. (Bill) McCoy, 88, of Merrick, NY, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by family, on April 17, 2021.
Bill was born in the Bronx to J. Willard and Marian McCoy on September 9, 1932. He grew up in Lynbrook, NY and graduated from Manhattan College in 1954. Bill served in the United States Air Force for three years on Active Duty, followed by 35 years in the Active Reserves, and was promoted ultimately to the rank of Colonel. Concurrent with most of his time as an Active Reservist, he worked as a bank examiner for the New York State Banking Department, from which he retired in 1993.
Shortly after moving to Merrick in 1959, Bill became extensively involved in many activities of the Curé of Ars Church and its parish community.A member of the Knights of Columbus Padre Pio Assembly, he attained the honor of Faithful Navigator in 2014.He enjoyed golf, bowling, scouting, travel, and music.Throughout his musical career, he was a member of the church choirs of MacDill Air Force Base Chapel and the Curé of Ars Church, the Freeport Community Chorale, and The Long Island Harmonizers, a barbershop chorus and part of the Mid-Atlantic District of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
Bill is survived by his wife, Mary of Merrick, NY, his children, Thomas (Suzanne), William (Donna) and Mary Anne, and grandchildren, Matthew (Nicole), Ashley, Eugenia and Valeriu.
