Antoinette "Annette" Cassar, 78 (born August 9, 1942) passed away peacefully on January 9, 2021 after a long battle of lung related illnesses. She was the beloved wife of Salvatore Cassar, mother to Daniel S. Clanton, Gina-Marie Cassar and the late Deborah Clanton. A loving grandmother to Victoria Clanton, Alexander Clanton and Daniel C. Clanton and dearest great-grandmother to Anthony Loffredo. She is survived by her sisters and brothers Joan Sardone (nee Avitabile), Rosemarie Avitabile, Joseph Avitabile and Dennis Avitabile. Antoinette also leaves behind nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, a daughter-in-law and cousins whom she loved deeply.
Antoinette grew up in Queens with her parents (deceased) Joseph and Rose Avitabile and her siblings. She was an independent and extraordinarily strong woman who lived her life with love, courage, and a strong will. During her last few years, she battled with health crises that often left her weakened in body but never in spirit. She was a fighter – a true Leo as she was proud of proclaiming. She was devoted to her family and took pride in her part to keep everyone in close contact by hosting annual bar-b-ques, Leo birthday parties and Christmas dinners. Even when she could no longer actively participate in preparations, she and her husband Salvatore continued these traditions to keep the bonds of family strong. She also began a weekly Wednesday night pizza dinner with her sisters and her niece Michelle Aceste as well as her grandson Daniel "Danny" Clanton.
Annette was known for her love, her smile, intelligence, stubbornness and pride for being Italian, a Leo and an avid animal lover. She was a wonderful friend to many, both human and animal. There were countless rescues of injured and abandoned animals and years of amazing love and care for her pets. She will be loved and missed by those who knew her and those who love her.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 13, at Sacred Heart R. C. Church, 720 North Merrick Avenue, North Merrick, NY
