So sorry to hear about Joe, our thoughts and prayers are with you Beverly and your family. The thing I remember most of all is when we came to your home for a holiday and I believe your daughter made that 7 layered salad. I lost those recipe years ago but it sure was good.

RIP? Yes, afterwards at the 19th hole. And I’m sure God gave him and my dad a table way in the back so their discussions on whether the rules were followed during the round...not enough room here for that (those) stories. They will finish with a great dinner and a nice short walk back to their rooms, watch a little tennis on tv, sleep soundly and make their next days tee time. HEAVAN is for real, enjoy guys and keep up with the folks in front! I loved uncle joe, too many stories and lots of laughs. Sandy, Christine and little PJ are all heartbroken and send much love to aunt Bev, Joey and Deb and the family. I will miss him, so very much. He always answered the phone, ‘hey kid’, how is Sandy and Christine and little PJ . He laughed and smiled his way around life’s best moments. Our times at the greenbrier with my dad and Joey, playing golf, cocktails to then settle the bets, then laughs (after long ‘discussions’), then dinner, at a table away from other guests...hen we arrived, Charlie would say, ‘welcome to the martini boys, your table is ready’. I’m laughing now, yet crying because, well, you know. I feel uncle Joe’s personality traits, many that I have, including the desire to smile and share the laughter...I will be always grateful for that gene, the ‘martini’ gene I call it. And uncle joe exemplified it. Miss you but I’m sure joey and I will someday return to the place that holds these lasting memories, and share your and my dad’s legacy, with our kids. Give my dad a hug, kiss my mom, and keep up with the team in front. Love you uncle joe.

I have been blessed to have a big, extended family. I love each and every one of them. I would choose them to be family if not already so lucky to have them. Joe was one of those blessings. His smile and laugh. The stories about fun times with my Aunt Millie and Uncle Lou Barnard. I read the other tributes here and realize something even more about Joe, and that is the influence he had on those he taught and coached. What a legacy when those who cross our paths remember us with such appreciation, gratitude and love! Joe made a big difference in so many lives. In my life, he was a much-loved part of our big family circle.
Garry and I send our love to Bev, Joey, Debbie and their families. We will keep Joe's memory tucked in our hearts along with all the loved ones who have gone before.

This is a story I tell of Joe Martini quite often. While attending Uniondale High School from 1979 - 1982 I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Martini. He had my three older siblings years earlier and because of them would love to joke around with me. We had a great relationship. He would dish it and I would take it and vice versa. Him and the other physical education teachers played a joke on me while during our Senior Trip to Fernwood. They had me convinced an older guy followed me there and they also had the boys in my grade in on the joke. They said let’s get Rizz. trust me all in good fun as it was back in the day. They got me alright and all of us laughed like crazy. One other time I didn’t feel like being in Ms. Jackson’s gym class so I walked to the back of the school where Mr. Martini was conducting a gym class with the boys. He saw me on the bleachers. It was a really nice warm day. He said Miss Rizzi. Aren’t you supposed to be in class. I said I missed you Mr. M. He laughed told me to finish up my school work. A few minutes later a girl from my gym class comes out yelling. Mr. Martini. Mr. Martini. She has a slip of paper in her hand and I knew it was a cut slip for me from Ms. Jackson. So I got up saying to the girl. Give me the note. She took off running so she could give it to him. He read it. Looked at her and said. Okay, tell Ms. Jackson I’ll take care of this. The girl left and when out of eyesight he looked at me and ripped it up and tossed the scraps in the air. I know this is a few winded stories about him but as I’m sure you know. He was terrific. My favorite person at UHS. I really wanted you to know that and I hope it made you smile. RIP Mr. M. You were the greatest ❤️

When we think of Mr Martini, we think of his beautiful smile his contagious laugh, always joking and making people feel good to be around him. He loved people and people loved him. His love and support for his family was unmatched. Showing up at every one of his grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, concerts, graduations...and giving his daughter Debbie a dozen roses on every single birthday meant the world to them. He was always there with his loving wife at his side, a match made in heaven. We were the lucky ones that got to meet him along the way. He has touched so many lives and put a smile on our faces. We will miss him so much and will cherish all of the memories and belly laughs. Forever in our hearts.

I had the privilege's to be both taught and coached by Joe Martini when at Uniondale HS from 1962-'65. To say he was admired by his students and teams is a gross understatement. He exemplified the talents of providing mentorship, enforcing discipline, and building enthusiasm all at the same time. Others I stay in contact with from the same time at Uniondale all remember him in almost the exact same way. While his passing saddens us, his memory will will be a wonderful reminder of wonderful times.

Being in Mr. Martini’s presence was a true blessing. He lit up the room with his smile and knew how to make everyone laugh. His enthusiasm and zest for life was contagious and we especially loved sitting next to he and Mrs. Martini as he cheered on Erin and the girls at the Sacred Heart CYO volleyball games. We were all always amazed how he knew all of the referees and coaches. He was a true gentleman and heaven has gained another Angel. Thinking of you and our thoughts and prayers are with you all ❤️

Mr. Martini was a person you were always happy to see and he was equally as happy to see you. A true gentleman in every sense of the word. He was always at the ready with his amazing, warm smile. We called him “the mayor” and loved to watch as he walked down the street and spoke to everyone during the block parties. Truly in his element. He loved his family and was cherished here on earth. Now he is an angel in heaven. We will miss you, Mr. Mayor.
