Obituary of Mary Tapia

Mary Tapia, (Britton) 90 of Massapequa NY Passed away on August 19, 2020 in hospice in Melville NY Mary was born in New York to Luke and Mary Britton on July 12, 1930. She learned secretarial skills in school which she put to use over a long career working for the Catholic Church. Starting at the Chancellery of St. Patrick's Cathedral and ending as secretary to the principal o Holy Trinity High School Hicksville, New York Mary is survived by her sons Robert of Orleans,MA, Gary of Redlands AC as well as her son-in law Michael Vittorio of Merrick New York. She is also survived by her seven beloved grandchildren; Jennifer Vittorio, Amy Travaglianti and her husband Edward, Michael Vittorio and his wife Katharine, Robert Tapia, Danielle Peck and her husband Justin, Kaitlin Tapia and Matthew Tapia. She also leaves behind six great grandchildren; Britton, Blair, and Luke Travaglianti Natalie Vittorio and Oliver and Owen Peck. She is preceded in death by her two best friends, her husband Edmund Tapia and her daughter Linda Vittorio. Mary's two sisters, Catherine Diano and Veronica O'Malley, also predeceased her. Mary was a great household CEO. She could make ends meet as well as anyone. She was proud of her Greenwich Village roots and her Irish blood. She loved to dance and travel with her husband Ed and to watch her family grow. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am on Monday, August 24 at Cure Of Ars R. C. Church, 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY with Msgr. Francis Caldwell officiating. Burial will be in Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury Visiting will be Monday, August 24 from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at N. F. Walker Funeral Home 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY. .
