Elena “Ellie” (nee Gregory) Travers Hancock, 93, died peacefully on January 6, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New York City in 1926, Ellie, in her own words, “lived a very happy life.” Family was everything to Ellie and her faith in God carried through the good times and the bad.
One of Ellie’s proudest achievements was becoming the first woman president of the Merrick Republican Club. She was also the well-respected First Deputy Commissioner for the Town of Hempstead’s Senior Enrichment Program.
Ellie looked on the bright side of life and always saw the good side of people. She touched many hearts with her love and beautiful smile. She loved socializing and surrounded herself with her family, who brought her great joy. She was stylish and classy, a great cook, loved her Champagne, and celebrated life to its fullest.
She is survived by her siblings Louis and Mary; her children, John (Lauree), Richard (Eileen), Carolyn (Thomas, deceased); grandchildren Jessica, Kaitlyn, Ryan, Taryn, and Devan; great-grandchildren Jennifer and Jaxson and many nieces and nephews.
