Pierce, age 84, of Merrick, NY and Roscoe, NY, passed away on June 6, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his adoring wife Arlene, sons and daughters-in-law; Greg and Donna, and Brian and Michelle, and his grandchildren; Sarah, Megan, John, Matthew and Andrew. George was born in Chicago, IL, and grew up in Springfield Gardens, Queens, NY. He was married to Arlene Keimig for 60 wonderful years together, raising their family in Merrick, NY. George enlisted in the Marine Corp in 1957, achieving the rank of Lance Corporal in the 2nd RECON Battalion of the 2nd Marine Division, where he saw the world being deployed in the Pacific and Mediterranean. Following military service, George’s life work was in law enforcement as part of the Nassau County Police Department where he simultaneously pursued his secondary education receiving a master’s degree in criminal justice from C.W. Post University. During his career he took on increasingly challenging assignments, which he loved. He found his calling as a Detective in the Homicide division where he was driven by a passion for justice, making our streets safer and bringing peace and closure to the victims of crime. He retired after 28 years of service. In retirement, George continued his service to the community by volunteering as a driver for the Disabled American Veterans, taking former servicemen to their doctor appointments, and providing laughs and companionship along the way. George was happiest when spending time at the lake house he built with his family. He was an eternal optimist and enjoyed spending time supporting & teaching those around him. He had a career of consequence, a wife and children who loved him completely, grandchildren who were his pride and joy. His strength and kindness were infectious, and well placed, as those around him always shared in his love of life. Friends are invited to share their memories of George with his family during visitation at the N.F. Walker Funeral Home, 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY 11566, on 11th day June 2023 from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 pm. Interment will follow on June 12th at Calverton Nation Cemetery, Calverton NY.
