Joan M. Kennedy, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 16, 2025. 

Joan was the devoted wife of the late Edward A. Kennedy, with whom she shared a long and loving marriage of 64 years until his passing in 2017. Together, they built a beautiful life and legacy centered around faith, family, and enduring love. She was the cherished mother of Maureen Mitch (Frank), Eileen Brennan (John), Edward Kennedy (Francie), Kathleen Day (James), and Paul Kennedy (Liz). 

Joan’s legacy lives on through her 11 adoring grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immeasurable pride and joy. She was also a loving sister to Mary Joyce (Jack) and Paul Taylor (Pat), and a steadfast presence in the lives of her extended family and friends.

A woman of deep faith, Joan was a longtime and devoted member of Sacred Heart R.C. Church in North Merrick. She was also a member of the Rosary Society and the Catholic Daughters of America, serving her parish community with quiet dedication. Joan was spirited and fun-loving, finding deep joy in friendships, whether through her longtime book club or the Over 50 Club. 

Nothing brought her more joy than time spent with those she loved. Sundays often meant a pot roast dinner at Grandma’s house, followed by performances by the grandchildren that filled the room with laughter. She and her husband Ed also created lasting memories through their cherished annual family reunions in the Outer Banks, a tradition that celebrated connection and togetherness.

Known for her warm heart, gentle humor, and unwavering devotion to her family, Joan had a way of making everyone feel loved. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
