John Joseph Dorsey, Jr.

December 9, 1933- May 17, 2024

John J. Dorsey, Jr. (Jack) passed away peacefully on May 17, 2024 at the age of 90. By anyone's account, he was a good and decent man. He was born in Astoria, Queens and raised in Whitestone with he three sisters, Patricia, Kalthleen and Honey, whom he loved dearly. From the start, he was a builder. He spent his career as a project manager on big construction sites. Over decades of long days on difficult work sites, he negotiated difficult situations to keep his workers safe and get the job done. He oversaw major construction projects for various builders throughout Metropolitan New York. He worked on many bridges, tunnels, the second avenue subway as well as the foundation for the World Trade Center.

A devoted husband for 68 years, he was the rock of the family; father to Mari, Eilleen and John. He led a life of good example with a warm and kind touch. He was Pop, the loving grandfather to Adam, Chris, Dan, Colin, Kristen, Michaela and Thomas and great grandfather to Vanessa Rae. In the early years, he loved cheering on his grandkids at their soccer, baseball, football, basketball, track, lacrosse, hockey and ballet events. He was proud of all their accomplishments. He loved his family gatherings , especially celebrating his birthday with Chinese dinners, St. Patrick's Day with corned beef and Thanksgiving with his famous sausage stuffing.

To the end, he was a builder. He built a life based on sacrifice, patience and love for his family. He built a life that mattered.
