John Joseph McSherry, 74, passed away on October 31st, 2022, at South Shore Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Freeport, NY. John was born on May 30th, 1948 to Ellen Broderick McSherry and James Charles McSherry, in New York, NY. He received his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1970. Four years later, he married Kathie McElroy. They lived for a few years in Floral Park, NY, before establishing their longtime home in Merrick, NY, where they raised their four children and where extended family and friends were always welcome. John was a banker, serving as a Vice President at the Bank of New York from 1996 – 2004, and as a Principal at Mercer Investment Consulting from 2004 – 2010. In 2016, he retired from JPMorgan Chase & Co as an Executive Director. Although John was proud of his work, he was prouder of his family. He delighted in the professional and personal accomplishments of Kathie, Dana, Brian, Colin and Matthew. After retirement, John and Kathie spent time in Florida each year, making new friends and memories. Retirement also allowed for more time at The Lake in Pennsylvania, where John loved to grow fruits and vegetables for family and friends in his large garden, craft things for those he loved in his wood shop, and most of all, spend time with his large family, especially his grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered for his great generosity, warm heart, and smiling eyes. Survivors include his wife of forty-eight years, Kathie McElroy McSherry; his children, Dana McSherry (Kent Greenfield) of Cambridge, MA, Brian McSherry (Meg) of Newton, MA, Colin McSherry (Hilary) of Merrick, NY, and Matthew McSherry (Sara) of Rockville Centre, NY; his sister Eileen McSherry Wallace (Edward); his grandchildren, Lilly, Ruby, Emma, Henry, Charlie, Baby Girl McSherry (expected in December) and Baby Boy McSherry (expected in February); and his step-grandson, Liam Greenwell.
