John A. Oppel, of Merrick on August 20, 2016 Retired Director of Development for State of New York H.U.D. Korean War Army Veteran. Beloved husband of Hildegarde (nee Muller). Devoted father of Jean Vecchione ( Raymond P.) and Ellen Rasulo ( Cliff). Twin brother of Frances Flaherty. Loving Grandfather of Maria Begley, Raymond S. Vecchione, Peter J. Vecchione, Kevin J. Rasulo and Kelly M. Rasulo. Proud Great Grandfather of Ronan, Anton and Marin Begley. A Funeral Mass will be offered at 11:00 am on Tuesday, August 23 at Cure Of Ars R. C. Church, 2323 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY American Legion services Monday 7PM at the N. F. Walker Funeral Home Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Charles Cemetery. Visiting will be Monday, August 22 from 2-4 & 7-9PM at N. F. Walker Funeral Home 2039 Merrick Avenue, Merrick, NY. Donations to Missionary Sisters of St. Benedict 350 Cuba Hill Road Huntington NY 11743 would be appreciated. .
